Australian Government is offering two types of visa for such occasion: eVisitor(651) and Visitor(600).

Visa eVisitor (651):

• free of charge,
• can be applied for through ImmiAccount on dibp.gov.au,
• doesn’t require travel insurance,
• during application process an officer may ask about the purpose of visit, financial backup and employment status,
• can be only applied for from outside of Australia,
• allows for a stay of 3 months counting from the day of arrival,
• is valid for 12 months from the date of visa grant,
• the purpose of visit can be tourism, family visitation or business,
• doesn’t come with work permit,
• can be extended by up to 9 more months while still in Australia for tourism, family visitation or business purposes by applying for visa Visitor (600)
• can be converted to student visa, sponsorship visa 457 or residency.

Visa Visitor (600):

• can be applied for through ImmiAccount on dibp.gov.au
• doesn’t require travel insurance,
• during application process an officer may ask about the purpose of visit, address of family in Australia, financial backup and employment status,
• can be applied for from within Australia or from overseas,
• allows for stay in Australia for 3 to 12 months counting from the day of arrival,
• the purpose of visit can be tourism, family visitation or business,
• doesn’t come with work permit,
• an be extended by up to 9 more months while still in Australia for tourism, family visitation or business purposes by applying for another visa Visitor (600),
• can be converted to student visa, sponsorship visa 457 or residency.
